The Flatiron Music Series: Jacob Allen Deaton
Here at FlatironCity we love live music, and are always on the lookout for new bands in the Atlanta music scene that can play in our first floor lounge -- an office lounge by day turned concert venue on some special nights. We started the music series because just like entrepreneurs, musicians make the jump to do something they are truly passionate about, and we wanted to highlight this entrepreneurial spirit.
We've had everything from a SoFar Sounds show to cellist Mary Horst to now --- Jacob Allen Deaton. Jacob comes to us from a recommendation by one of our companies, Cochon 555. If you have a music recommendation, let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org or @flatironcity on Twitter.
We sat down with Jacob to hear a bit about his music.
How long have you been playing (or when/how did you start)?
I’ve been playing for about 14 years now. Got started around the age of 22 and it’s been a blur ever since!
Who are your major influences?
Life, mostly. Every day I wonder how did I get here, where am I going and what tomorrow brings. Every day is a new adventure in the music buisness.
What inspires you?
People who really take chances. Out of the box thinkers. Entrepreneurs. Artists.
What are your favorite spots in Atlanta?
Elliott Street Pub. Brash coffee. West side beltline. Chairs (a bar).
What do you love about the city?
For an artist, the affordability has always been the chief corner stone of why people like myself live here. While thats rapidly changing, Its one of the main reasons ATL's artist community is so diverse and cutting edge. Most don't know, but the art that's being produced in Atlanta right now is more interesting than LA, Nashville or NYC COMBINED. You just have to know where to find it.
Where can people see you play?
I'm kind of all over these days...but one place I love to play is Elliott Street Pub. That place is ground zero for musicians taking chances on a regular basis for the sake of art and growth...not for a dollar. It's worth taking a moment and checking it out!
